“How much will it cost?” is the first question every customer asks — and the honest answer is: it depends on the part, not the visit. Here is how pricing actually works.
The diagnostic fee
Almost every repair company in Houston charges a service call / diagnostic fee. It covers the technician’s trip, inspection and troubleshooting. At VK Service Inc. the diagnostic fee is applied toward the repair if you approve the estimate — so you don’t pay it twice.
Typical repair ranges
Every job is different, but these ranges cover most repairs we see:
- Refrigerator: ice maker, fans, thermostats — moderate; compressor or sealed-system work — the high end
- Dishwasher: pumps, valves and latches are usually mid-range repairs
- Oven / range: igniters, heating elements and sensors are common and affordable
- Washer / dryer: belts and heating elements are inexpensive; drum bearings cost more in labor
Premium built-in brands (Thermador, Sub-Zero, Viking, Wolf) use specialized parts, so parts cost more than mass-market equivalents — but the appliance is usually worth repairing.
Repair or replace?
Our rule of thumb: if the repair costs less than half the price of a comparable new unit and the appliance is under 10 years old (or it’s a premium built-in), repair it.
